By the end of the 1700s, the Trikene family moved from Kefalonia to Messolonghi. The only dowry was a recipe for ouzo. Brothers Panos and Tasos Trikenes, founded the distillery with the first cauldron operated in 1901 at D. Makris Street, in the old fish market.

The cauldron was in the shop. Ouzo was coming out the night before, for the day's needs. In front there was a marble countertop where, along with the ouzo, there were given snacks. Those days ouzo was accompanied with boiled potato with salt from Messolonghi, tomato, cucumber and radish.

People came to the shop, before lunchtime. It was, for them, an opportunity to chat before they went home. In front of his marble countertop, which was maintained until the 1970s, lawyers and fishermen, merchants and workers joined together. In the 1980s ouzo shops became fashionable and flooded the market.

On the city's pedestrian street, among the trendy cafes, Trikenes distillery resists in its own way. It stands unchanged since 1901, making and selling ouzo, mastic liqueurs, banana, mint and cognac.

The brand has been awarded at the Thessaloniki International Fair in 1932 and 1951. It is a traditional shop that has kept its glory for many years, with old barrels and showcases reminiscent of another era.

Today Mr. Pantelis, son of the founder of the distillery is now running the business.

If you wonder how the local writer's books link to the showcase of the drinks shop, Mr. Pantelis will tell you "Alcohol and spirit gentlemen!"
