The Marathon Road is a 42,195-km (26,219-mile) official road race that is included in modern Olympic sports. The race is thus called from the historical route of the Athenian soldier, Pheidippides, who, after the battle of Marathon (490 BC), ran from the battlefield to Athens to convey the winning news with the word "nenikisamen". The historical accuracy of this fact is confirmed by Philostratus.
Every years, athletes and visitors from around the world come to participate this big event. Besides this physical strength, the competition reveals the greatness of soul and spirit of the participants.
